West Lakes

The wildest and naturally beautiful area of the Lake District National Park. Deep and long valleys are common sight here in the western Lake District with villages and people few and far between. That said, there is still plenty to explore, see and do. If you’re looking for a true countryside break and isolated escape, a self-catering holiday cottage in the Western Lakes could be perfect for you.

Head to Wasdale, home to the deepest lake and highest mountain, Wastwater and Scafell Pike respectively. The true home of raw nature with large mountains and dramatic ‘craggy’ cliffs in this beautiful region. Why not venture a little further north and discover the most isolated in the National Park, Ennerdale. A breath-taking valley complete with its own lake, lush forests and large Lake District peaks!

Take the children on a magical journey via the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway – a miniature railway that winds along the floor of the Eskdale Valley taking in some beautiful scenery along the way. Or maybe stop by Muncaster Castle, a family-owned castle for more than 800 years! You can take advantage of a number of bird shows, playgrounds or just explore the stunning country gardens and lovely views that the castle boasts.

Head further west still and discover some of Cumbria’s stunning and criminally underrated coastline. From Haverigg to Silloth and St.Bees to Silecroft – Cumbria has some truly beautiful coastline. Spend some time uncovering the maritime heritage of Whitehaven & Maryport or the quintessential market towns of Cockermouth and Broughton-in-Furness.
