Elterwater village itself is peaceful and relaxing, its only pub, is found in the centre with an open green in front of it. Welcoming walkers and serving up fantastic food, The Britannia Inn is a must-visit if you're in the area. After a ten-to-fifteen minute walk to the northwest you'll be sure to find Chapel Stile, heading upstream along the River Brathay, you’ll begin to bear witness to the breath-taking beauty of the Great Langdale Valley.

Walking to the southwest, you'll start to see evidence of the areas past industry, with slate quarries found around that helped Elterwater to grow. For a longer trek, or perhaps better suited to a cycle-ride, head east to Troutbeck via the northern tip of the imposing Lake Windermere.
