Walking to the southwest, you'll start to see evidence of the areas past industry, with slate quarries found around that helped Elterwater to grow. Further afield, you can find the villages of Ambleside and Coniston a good walk away where you'll no doubt thoroughly enjoy the stunning views and scenery of the Lake District.

For a longer trek, or perhaps better suited to a cycle-ride, head east to Troutbeck via the northern tip of the imposing Lake Windermere. The lake itself provides a great point of respite during the journey, with its tranquil waters home to many watercraft and sailing boats - you can easily lose the hours in this secluded part of the country.
