Brackenthwaite Farm is situated in Yealand in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty nestled between the two coastal villages of Silverdale and Arnside in the south lakes. Built around a courtyard this group of family owned stone cottages with character features have been converted from original farm buildings belonging to the farm to create both homely, comfortable and stylish holiday accommodation.
With excellent walking and cycling from the door, these dog friendly properties have an abundance of walks nearby with the pretty village of Silverdale and Leighton Moss RSPB close by. The attractive coastal village of Arnside is also just 10 minutes away by car with stunning coastal walks or try Arnside Knott with its breathtaking views of the surrounding Morecambe Bay estuary, Grange Over Sands and the Lakeland fells as well as prolific wildlife including natural flowers and rare butterflies. You can also walk to Warton Crag or walk through Leighton Hall grounds to Leighton Moss Bird Reserve which has an excellent café for refreshments and is also conveniently located next to Silverdale railway opposite the golf course. From here by rail in less than 10 minutes in one direction visit Carnforth station. Here you can step back time as the iconic film Brief Encounter was filmed here during the war, enjoy refreshments in the tea room set as the film from the forties, watch the film and visit the museum. In the other direction hop on the train to Arnside and in a few minutes arrive at Arnside or continue over the viaduct across the estuary to appealing Edwardian town of Grange Over Sands.
From the cottages themselves, Farleton Knott can be seen which has some of the best limestone pavements in the area from the bedrooms over the fields and or Lakeland fells. All cottages have their own outdoor seating areas and off road parking. Don’t be surprised either is Dora the explorer the most curious of the free range hens hops on your window sill for a little look and there are often free eggs to purchase too.
There are good pubs in Silverdale and Arnside but also Yealand and Beetham too, in fact you will be spoilt for choice and there are a plethora of local walks with through fields and woodland in all directions. Don’t forget fairy steps which is a local walk between Beetham and Arnside and see if you can pass down the steps to be granted a wish.
Within easy reach is also Kirkby Lonsdale the delightful historic village with excellent eateries, independent shops as well as stunning walks by the river and Devils Bridge. Why not take in one of Ruskin's favourite view from the riverside. Easily reached and on route to Kendal how about visiting Levens Hall with its superb gardens and fascinating history of the allegedly haunted house with superb history within the gardens with world class topiary and the alleged haunted house. Kendal the gateway to the lakes and Sizergh Castle are just another ten minutes away and are both interesting to visit.
Brackenthwaite farm is surrounded by fields and in fact the owners have devised a nature trail from the door for guests to enjoy. There is walking and cycling from the door in abundance in this rural setting yet it is well placed for further exploration of the south Lakeland area and beyond. With the ever changing colours of nature and the wonderful vistas in this area this quieter corner is somewhat a hidden gem which is wonderful for relaxing and exploring on your holiday in any season.
Enter Coach House One into the open plan comfortable, cosy lounge with character features of a natural stone wall and beams to the open plan kitchen and dining area. There are three bedrooms upstairs and the twin bedded room is assessed with six steps is a very spacious well presented twin bedded room with long range views to the Lakeland fells fitted wardrobes and comfortable seating area to take in the views. The double bedroom is to the front with views over the pretty courtyard and the third bedroom has bunk beds. The modern bathroom is also on this floor and has a bath with shower over and heated towel rail which is perfect for a soak after your day's activities. Directly next to the entrance of the coach house porch area there is a laundry room shared with coach house two which has a washing machine and dryer for guest use.
Outside there is a private side courtyard area and seating and table for the use of guests at this property. Enjoy the tranquillity and hear the bird song in this lovely spot. The main delightful internal courtyard which has stables and pots of flowers and is also where you are able to park .
Coach House 1 and 2 may be booked together to sleep 10 guests.
NB. There is a right turn halfway up the stairs are six steps on the first floor with from the landing to the twin bedded room. Dogs are welcome here but as there are free range hens please do keep dogs on a lead outside whilst outside on the premises.High Chair and cot available on request.
