Enjoy woodland walks amongst the bluebells which can be seen exclusively in May throughout the Lake District.

‘Ne’er cast a clout till May be out’ so the 18th-century saying goes! Which is an old fashioned way of saying the weather usually improves from June onwards! With the arrival of June, the wild foxgloves grow as illustrated in the tale of Jemima Puddleduck another local favourite.

Saturday 5 May to Monday 7 May - Cumberland Sausage Festival

The 5th Food and Drink Festival over May Day at Muncaster Castle! A three day celebration of good food, drink and all things Cumbrian, over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

With celebrity chefs, cookery demos, competitions and entertainment for all ages and of course the food! To sample, to buy to eat and to take home for later.

Friday 18 May to Sunday 20 May - Windermere Boat Show

The shores of England’s largest lake will come alive with local companies offering water sports such as stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, wakeboarding and sailing, plus a huge collection of vessels, new and used, from small motorboats to large luxury yachts will be on display to view with local artisan food stalls offering a taste of Cumbria to keep you going for the day.

Sunday 20 May - Asics Windermere Marathon and Half Marathon

Voted the UK's most scenic marathon by readers of Runners World, it's bigger, better than and as beautiful as ever. Finish this breathtakingly beautiful course, amidst a carnival atmosphere, in the grounds of Brathay Hall with its stunning views over England's largest lake. 

Saturday 2 June - National Trust Grasmere Gallop

Grasmere Gallop will take place on Saturday 1st June 2019 amidst the spectacular surroundings of Grasmere village and Rydal Water. Fast gaining a reputation as one of the friendliest fell races in the Lakes, each year we see more and more first-time runners, Nordic walkers and families racing alongside seasoned fell-runners. You can choose a 5.7km, 10km or 17km run or you could join the 10k Nordic Walk.

Saturday 2 June to Sunday 3 June - Country Fest

Celebrate the beginning of British Summertime with us at Country Fest – a fantastic family event, with delicious food and drink, countryside activities, children’s workshops, daring stunt demonstrations, live music and plenty more for the whole family to get involved in. Held at the Westmorland County Showground, Crooklands, near Kendal

Saturday 16 June - Cumberland County Show

The Cumberland Show takes Cumbria's best family day out to Carlisle Racecourse. 

Tradition and agriculture are combined with a fresh, modern focus to create a real celebration of farming food and countryside.

Friday 22 June to Saturday 23 June - Woolfest

Woolfest was founded to provide a showcase and a celebration of the best of wool and wool crafts. The event is all about creativity and design with beautiful quality, amazing colours and skilled craftsmanship. It is also a great day out and was recognised in 2012 when Woolfest won the Cumbria Tourism Event of the Year Award.
