We love eating. You love eating. Everyone loves eating! The Lake District is known around the world for producing some of the tastiest and highest quality dishes and ingredients; Cumberland Sausage, Herdwick Lamb, Grasmere Gingerbread, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Toffee Vodka just to name a few.

Here at Good Life Lake District Cottages, we’ve been asking around our office for everyone’s favourite place to eat in the Lake District. So, the next time you visit you’ll have a list of the locals favourite spots to eat!

Homeground, Windermere

Ok, so this one isn’t exactly a hidden gem. Homeground café on Windermere high street serves a delicious range of meals, fresh coffees and much more. You can even sample their famous fried chicken and waffles if you’ve got the appetite for it! If you like putting pictures of your food on Instagram, this place is perfect for you! Homeground can be found next door to Sainsburys in Windermere town centre.

The Old Stamp House, Ambleside

One of the Good Life team quoted this place as ‘THE best place for dinner’. If that isn’t a shining endorsement, I don’t know what it is. Having recently received its first Michelin Star, this is a true culinary experience as the talented team of chefs celebrate the food heritage that the county has to offer. Winning numerous awards in the process including the Cumbria Life Restaurant of the Year and Lake District Life Dining Experience of the Year. If you really appreciate good food, check out The Old Stamp House next time you’re in Ambleside.

The Drunken Duck, Nr Hawkshead

This is a beautiful country pub in the heart of the south Lakes and one of the strong favorites of many Good Life employees. Now serving some delicious bar meals and with one of the best beer garden views in the world, a pit stop at The Drunken Duck should be on the cards the next time you’re near Hawkshead.

Kysty Kitchen, Ambleside

One of the dads in our office recommends this place as fantastic family-friendly place to eat if you’re travelling with children. Another spot in the heart of Ambleside town centre, Kysty’s serves a range of tasty meals and is rated number 1 in the area for quick bites eat. Perfect for refueling and getting back into the outdoors!

These are just a few of our favourite places to eat in the Lake District. If we’ve missed one of your favourite places to eat, let us know on social media! We’d love to hear what you enjoy doing when you visit.
