On 9th March, we were proud to be supporting the second Cumbria Family Business Awards. We are very lucky to have an amazing range of businesses within Cumbria who are family owned and run. The Cumbria Family Business Awards aims to showcase and celebrate them.

The Good Life Lake District Cottages is part of family owned company through The Original Cottage Company, and we believe that family values are part of what makes us special.

We were excited to get involved with the awards, and to take on the important role and responsibility of getting the guest of honour to the venue for the evening.

Preparing for the Award celebrations

The glittering ceremony was held at Garden at Eden, Carlisle. It had been due to be hosted by 'Hairy Biker' Dave Myers but ill health prevented him attending. His friend and co-presenter Si King offered to step in to host the event.

We began the day with a good clean and polish of the Good Life wheels to make sure they were sparkling ready to be presented to our esteemed host. Our award – goers, Mary and Jon, got their glad rags on and headed up to The Garden at Eden for the presentation evening.

More than 300 guests watched as 16 companies collected prizes at the Cumbria Family Business Awards 2018.

The Outstanding Cumbria Family Business of the Year Award went to 140-year old Carlisle-based food supplier Pioneer Food Services.

“Cumbria owes so much to the family businesses who make this county such a vibrant place to live and work, we are proud to see Cumbria shine so bright" said Janett Walker, co-founder of the Cumbria Family Business Awards.

All of the winners will also automatically be represented at the national Family Business Awards in London later this year, flying the flag for Cumbria even further.
