4 Swiss Villas is in a super location very close to the centre of Ambleside, it’s just off the main street on the lane leading down to Rothay Park and St Mary’s Church. The house was built in 1906 and the occupied by the builder and his family, his daughter remaining in the property until 1975 when the current owner purchased it. They extended it in 2005 along with lots of other improvements, to make plenty of space for 6 to spread out.Set in an elevated position up a short flight of outside steps (well lit when it goes dark!).
From the entrance door into a long hallway with main staircase and the kitchen dining area through to your left. The kitchen diner is over 20ft long and has a pretty feature fireplace and Lakeland stone floor throughout. At one end a charming, rustic dining table and chairs for 6 people and large bay window with seating to enjoy the view. The kitchen has all the mod cons, dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven and an abundance of crockery and kitchen equipment to suit requirements. The kitchen area leads through into the utility room with monks bench and plenty of space for muddy boots and to hang wet coats, you can also access the garden/patio area from here via the back door. Entrance to the lower cellar via stone steps from the utility room. The cellar has plenty of space for storing bikes and holiday equipment. When the extension was built the owners added a downstairs shower room with toilet and sink which is just off the utility area.
The new part of the house was made into a new lounge with gas stove that looks very much like a log fire but without all the mess and hassle of getting logs and cleaning it out. Seating for 6 with sofa and 4 chairs. Plenty of books and games are provided for your entertainment, along with a flatscreen tv and wifi. The room benefits from a high ceiling and a feature stone wall to one side.
Upstairs the house has 3 bedrooms and a main bathroom with pretty cast iron bath and traditional taps, sink and w.c. On the first floor is the twin bedroom overlooking the rooftops over Milans Park and the master bedroom with new and very pretty king size metal bed and great views over the rooftops of the village towards Wansfell beyond. On the top floor is another large twin bedroom with two single beds and views towards the fells.
The house benefits from a garden/patio that goes front to back, this is mostly paved and gravelled. During the warmer months garden table and chairs are provided for 6 people. Outside the front of the property is a bench for you to sit out and enjoy the view and watch village life pass you buy.
4 Swiss Villas has a rear gate which leads out along a communal path to Milans Park where you can park two cars with the parking permits provided for guests. Short stay parking is available at the front of the property but this is for a maximum of an hour parking there. Guests can then come and go using the back door of the property which leads straight into the Utility room with space for muddy boots and to hang wet coats.
The cottage is in a superb location for enjoying all Ambleside has to offer. You are 50 yards from Zefirellis Cinema and Restaurant, numerous wine bars, restaurants and pubs are all close by. Rothay Park is just a few hundred yards away with large grassed areas and childrens play park. Swiss Villas central location also has easy access to the surrounding fells of Loughrigg, Wansfell and the Fairfield Range.
