Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

It’s that time of year again, not only is the Great British Bake Off back on our screens, but the summer holidays have reached the point where most parents are ready for a return to school for their kids. You’ve seen everything on at the cinema, you’ve been on holiday, you’ve entertained until you have no more ideas. Well here’s a quick baking idea that not only is an easy one to involve the children, it produces fantastic cookies to keep everyone smiling and happy. Not only do they taste great they also look impressive.

This is taken from an American recipe and uses cup measures for everything (making it far more practical to do with your kids)

Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

  • Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup of veg oil (Thats 3 quarters of a cup not 3 to 4) Working with kids can be distracting :(
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2.33 cups of plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Half a tsp of salt
  • Icing sugar for rolling


Combine the sugar, oil and cocoa in a large bowl and beat until well blendedBeat in the eggs one at a time then add the vanillaIn a small bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Slowly add this to the cocoa mixture, mix wellCover the bowl and leave it to get cold in the fridge for an hour (it will go firm and less sticky)

Preheat oven to 180°c and greese some cookie sheetsRoll dough into 1 inch balls then roll the balls in icing sugar to coat the surface, place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Don’t handle the dough balls too long or they become very sticky before the icing sugar goes on.Bake for 10-12 minutes.

We got about 50 cookies from this recipe but you can make them larger or smaller as you see fit.
