Langdale Gala - Sunday 1st July

Written by Natalie Barker on

Langdale Gala 2012 (Sunday 1st July, Walthwaite Meadow, Chapel Stile). Times they are a changing in Langdale Valley as a new Gala committee has taken over organizing the  annual celebration of all things Langdale. This years gala has been re-energized with a broader appeal to both locals and visitors. All the old is still in place but new craft and trade stands will be in attendance. Fell-races and Cumberland Wrestling will still be huge attractions but we can add Zorbing into the mix for those who fancy something a little different. For the kids there will be races, fancy dress, face painting, bouncy castles, entertainers plus lots more. After my complaints about the lack of a burger stand at last years Gala it seems the powers that be have heard me and hot food will be available once again (it did actually take a little more than me mentioning it to reinstate). There will also be the usual mouth-watering array of sandwiches, cakes, ice-cream and biscuits in the main marquee. Langdale Gala has always been a great family day out and 2012 is looking to be one of the best yet.

Traditionally, the Langdale Gala Committee organised a ‘booze up’ on the Saturday night before every Gala (30th June 2012). This tradition died off a few years ago but the new committee decided it was too fun to miss! So this year they will be giving it another go. The event will be located in the main marquee on the Gala field, starting at 7.30pm until 9pm for the children and then carrying on into the early hours for whoever wants to stay! There will be a hog roast, supplied by F. Garside, a bar and a local disco playing to make it a night to remember. All going well, the tradition of the Gala Dance will carry on for many years to come.

Most of the proceeds taken at the Gala and Gala Dance are put towards the following years event with some money being used for activities for local children. Obviously the stronger the support then the better it can be each successive year. We’ll be supporting the gala & inviting friends and family to share our fun day out.
