It’s Not All About Work

Heather & I had a wonderful day on Sunday (3/7).A lazy morning was followed by the arrival of friends (& godchildren), to spend the afternoon at Langdale Gala. This years Gala was to be the last in a long running valley tradition. Unfortunately there are no longer enough people with time available to run it. The event itself was very well organized with plenty of things to occupy young children + fell races, Cumberland Wrestling & the finest selection of cakes to be found anywhere. It was with some sadness that we had to leave early and missed the ‘Tug-of -War’ which is always fun to take part in (despite the fact I always lose to the Benson clan).
However… our reason for early departure was to give us time to drive down to Manchester. Heather had bought tickets to see Paul Simon on tour @ Manchester Apollo. Upon arrival at the gig we found our seats were fairly central balcony seats overlooking the stage. Paul Simon put on a superb show, digging right through his back catalogue. He also gave us plenty from his new album before doing 2 encores including a cover of ‘The Beatles- Here comes the sun’, ‘Sound of Silence’ and finished with ‘You can call me Al’. I could have done without it being a seated gig as the urge to get up & dance to ‘Obvious Child’ & ‘Diamonds on the soles of her shoes’ was hard to resist.
Our working lives take up a great deal of time so it’s nice to kick back & relax. Enjoying time with your partner, family & friends is every bit as important as slaving away in the office, we know our guests are aware of this because thats what they visit our cottages to do.
Sometimes we’re the guilty party when it comes to remembering this simple truth.
